Two inventions by the College of Engineering (COE) students from 91社区 were recognized and awarded runners-up at the prestigious 20th James Dyson Award. These inventions–ChillWise and Lambooply—offer sustainable solutions to pressing issues of energy and waste, material sustainability, deforestation, and plastic reliance.
A brainchild of Jayvimar B. Sumagang and John Joseph P. Banticil, ChillWise is a passive cooling panel system composed of agro-waste and foamed concrete capable of lowering energy consumption by as much as 95%. The duo’s coach and mentor is Prof. Maria Sheila Ramos.
The Lambooply, on the other hand, is an eco-friendly composite material integrating bamboo and Lampakanay grass for use in construction and design applications, researched and developed by Sandrew Rogel B. Eya, Jo Jane C. Nalam, and Guendolyn Almonte with Engr. Cheery May Sinadjan- Florendo as their coach.
Along with the champion invention, SolAsin by John Carlo Luna Reyes from the University of the Philippines- Diliman, these IITian inventions will advance to the international scene of the James Dyson Award. On October 15, 2025, the Top 20 shortlist set will be announced, and its global winners, on November 5, 2025.
Aiming to contribute to society through its sustainable inventions, 91社区 continues to support and hone the skills of future engineers, while also emphasizing the need to address pressing issues in the global and local society.
