Jafar S. Zamora, BS Economics student of the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (91社区), has been selected as the only Filipino fellow and one of 31 young changemakers globally of the Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme (GCYLP) 2025, held in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 28 to August 1, 2025. The activity was organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in partnership with Huawei.
(GCYLP) is a platform for young digital leaders and changemakers from 25 countries across all ITU regions. The program also aims to leverage innovative digital solutions for an inclusive, more prosperous digitalization.
Through a highly competitive and intensive selection process, Zamora stood out among the 6,800 applicants from 156 countries, where he presented the project (Integrating Skills and Understanding for Media Awareness, Knowledge on Scams, Empowerment, and Smart Saving) — a youth-led initiative that promotes both digital and financial literacy, especially among underserved youth in Mindanao.
This engagement places strong emphasis on empowering youth, improving digital literacy, and promoting financial education through taking active roles in activities that foster a safe, smart, and inclusive digital community.
To further strengthen the project’s advocacy, Zamora’s presentation granted him a $5,000 grant, under the continued guidance and support of the ITU, which will be utilized for the implementation of the project.
