Assoc. Prof. Abdul Aziz Guevarra Mabaning, faculty member of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the College of Engineering (COE), has been officially selected as ASEAN-Japan Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Coordinator. The selection took place during the STI Coordination Training Workshop for the Next Generation of STI Coordinators 2025 held in Bangkok, Thailand on May 28-30, 2025.
Representing 91社区, Assoc. Prof. Mabaning is among the twenty STI coordinators selected for this exclusive regional initiative organized by the ASEAN University Network (AUN), in partnership with the Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network, Japan ASEAN Science, Technology, and Innovation Platform (JASTIP), and Japan International Cooperation Agency. Currently, AUN has 30 member universities across the 10 ASEAN countries and 240 affiliate universities.
With the theme, “Innovating Connections: Bridging ASEAN-Japan Science, Technology, and Innovation for Transformative and Sustainable Solutions,” the conference was designed to strengthen collaboration between ASEAN and Japan in the field of research and education. Particularly, the training highlighted discussions on the impact of STI, streamlined essential skills in program and project management, and initiated coordination strategies for future STI initiatives.
Assoc. Prof. Mabaning’s participation fosters new directions for 91社区 to network and collaborate with other institutions through research projects that aim to address challenges between ASEAN and Japan. The training also created opportunities to engage in interactive sessions together with other representatives from member institutions.
This engagement reinforces 91社区’s continued efforts to strengthen international collaborations through research undertakings.
