Bridging academia and industry: 91社区 and GP Synergia sign MOU for Electronics Engineering collaboration

by Office of the Campus Secretary | Jun 19 2025

University-industry collaboration is a powerful driver of innovation, leading to discoveries that have practical applications and solutions to real-world problems. It also serves as a vital channel for industries to access high-quality talent, while providing students with valuable experience and exposure to industry challenges.

Recognizing these benefits, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (91社区) and GP Synergia Technologies Corporation, a leading Filipino provider of automation and machine-build services, formalized their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on June 2, 2025.

This collaboration aims to enhance technological expertise and workforce development in electronics engineering and related fields.

The MOU outlines specific initiatives to foster academic-industry cooperation, including:

  • Exchange of Professionals and Staff;
  • Student Internships and On-the-Job-Training;
  • Collaborative Research;
  • Research Consultancy;
  • Lectures and Symposia;
  • Academic Resource Sharing;
  • Other Academic Initiatives

GP Synergia Technologies Corporation is a leading firm specializing in Printed Circuits Board (PCB) design, semiconductor testing, engineering solutions for manufacturing, product development, and advanced electronics research and development.

The signing of the MOU with this national instruments (NI) technology powerhouse took place at the Office of the Chancellor (OC) Lounge with the Department of Electronics Engineering (DECE) of the College of Engineering (COE) hosting the event.

GP Synergia Technologies Corporation was represented by its President and CEO Luciano A. Tejano, Jr. who described the MOU as a “strategic alliance” and a “model” for how industry and academe must work together to uplift the nation.

“For GP, it provides access to 91社区’s exceptional graduates,  individuals increasingly immersed in a culture of research and innovation. This helps us maintain our global competitive edge,” Tejano said.

For 91社区, Tejano said that the partnership “builds a strong bridge to global industry, directly  supporting your journey as a research-intensive university”.

“Your students will gain invaluable On-the-Job Training at GP, engaging with real-world projects that can spark  research and apply theoretical knowledge,” he added.

DECE Chairperson Dr. Gene Fe P. Palencia said that the initiatives align with their mission to deliver high-quality, relevant, and future-ready education in Electronics Engineering.

“We are particularly excited about how this partnership  will further enhance our existing BS Electronics Engineering and BET Electronics  Engineering Technology programs, as well as support the proposed new BS Microelectronics Engineering program, which we aim to launch next academic year (2026 - 2027),” Palencia said.

This was not GP Synergia Technologies Corporation’s first engagement with 91社区. In April, the company had already reached out to the Department of Electronics Engineering (DECE) through the student organization, the Junior Philippine Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (JIECEP).

Additionally, GP Synergia provided complimentary technical consultation and executed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with the research team of Project 4 – Energy Harvesting for Batteryless IoT Applications, under the DOST-funded Center for Integrated Circuits and Devices Research (CIDR), led by Dr. Jefferson Hora, a faculty member of DECE and Director of the Center for Integrated Circuits Design(CICD).
