CCS students complete Quantum Computing and Blockchain Program

by CCS | Jun 11 2025

Thirty-five students from the College of Computer Studies successfully completed the Quantum Computing and Blockchain Lecture Series & Hackathon 2025.

Of this number, 34 were from the Computer Science program and one from the Computer Applications program.

The students underwent a 14-week program that integrated intensive lectures with hands-on experiences, immersing students in two of the most transformative fields in modern computing: quantum computing and blockchain technology. Participants engaged in comprehensive sessions on quantum algorithms, post-quantum cryptography, and blockchain development, which culminated in a capstone hackathon where they developed Minimum Viable Product (MVP) prototypes.

The program featured a nine-week focus on the fundamentals of quantum computing, which covered topics on quantum circuits, Grover’s search algorithm, and Shor’s algorithm, and four sessions dedicated to blockchain development, including smart contracts and decentralized applications.

In addition to technical knowledge, the program equipped students with a foundational knowledge in developing blockchain-based applications while gaining a deep understanding of quantum computing, post-quantum cryptography, and the vulnerabilities of current cryptographic systems like RSA and elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) to future quantum attacks.

Supported by the DOST-ASTI's Blockchain Research Group through the DataProtect-SIERRA project, the lectures also provided the students with hands-on experience using IBM Quantum Experience, Qiskit programming, smart contract deployment, and blockchain integration.

The Quantum Computing and Blockchain Lecture Series & Hackathon 2025 marks a significant achievement under the collaborative efforts of the University and the Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines (QCSP), a partnership fortified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This program ran from March 1 to May 30, 2025.

Through this pioneering initiative, 91社区 and QCSP continue to demonstrate their commitment to advancing technological education and preparing students for the demands of the rapidly evolving digital economy.

The success of the completers also highlights the tangible impact of strategic partnerships in empowering the next generation of tech leaders in the Philippines.
