In tropical countries like the Philippines, the spaces we consider safe - our homes, offices, schools, and even vehicles - may actually be exposing us to dangerous air pollutants and extreme heat that contribute to respiratory diseases, heart conditions, and cognitive decline. While we rely on energy-intensive air conditioning for relief, these systems drive up costs and carbon emissions, and "energy-efficient" sealed buildings often trap toxic air inside. Natural ventilation offers little reprieve in polluted urban areas. This silent health crisis demands urgent solutions.

Keynote experts and student researchers will present research on indoor air quality (IAQ) and environmental comfort in air-conditioned and naturally ventilated spaces—as well as in vehicles. The discussions will expose the unique challenges faced in the Philippine setting, where high temperatures, humidity, and urban density complicate efforts to maintain safe, comfortable indoor conditions. From there, the symposium will highlight innovative, research-based solutions aimed at creating healthier, more energy-efficient, and climate-resilient indoor environments.
